OSCE Backs Tajik Youth Drug Prevention Campaign

The OSCE Programme Office in Dushanbe (POiD) supported the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Tajikistan (MIA) in implementing an awareness-raising campaign on preventing drug addiction and substance abuse among youth and adolescents, while promoting sport and healthy lifestyles.

Conducted from 8 to 26 June 2026 in connection with the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, the campaign built on the success of a similar initiative organized in April this year by combining educational outreach with sports activities to encourage young people to make informed and healthy life choices.

The campaign featured informational sessions delivered by MIA officers, the Ministry of Health and Social Protection, and the MIA Sports Movement "Dynamo". These sessions were complemented by competitions in mini-football, volleyball, chess, checkers, and martial arts held across multiple regions.

Across the campaign 1,200 young people (480 women and 720 men) participated in activities organized in Dushanbe, Bokhtar, Kulob, Darvoz, Bobojon Gafurov, and Isfara, with the OSCE POiD providing sports equipment, prizes, informational materials, and banners.

The campaign concluded with a closing ceremony in Dushanbe on 26 June 2026, reaffirming the shared commitment of the MIA and the OSCE in raising public awareness among young people about the dangers of drug use and the importance of leading a healthy, active, and law-abiding
