OSU hosts 'Contagion' screenwriter Scott Z. Burns for virtual talk Feb. 18

CORVALLIS, Ore. - The Oregon State University School of Writing, Literature and Film presents "Framing Catastrophe," a conversation with American screenwriter, producer and director Scott Z. Burns at 4 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 18.

The virtual event is free and open to the public. To join the event, visit beav.es/JwP.

Burns is best known for his screenplays for "Contagion," "The Bourne Ultimatum," "The Informant!" and "Side Effects," and for producing the Academy Award-winning climate documentary "An Inconvenient Truth."

His stories often deal with international catastrophes and the bureaucratic struggles within the government agencies tasked with fixing them. His scripts translate specialized scientific, financial and legal information into compelling narratives without sacrificing accuracy.

In this timely conversation, Burns will discuss his work on "Contagion" and his ability to straddle the lines between journalism and creative writing. He will also talk about how he sees Hollywood and the film industry changing post-COVID and what types of stories and ways of filmmaking might be needed and in demand.
