CORVALLIS, Ore. - Oregon State University will host its 44th Annual Gerontology Conference March 31-April 1 as a virtual event.
Geriatric experts from around the country will present more than 30 educational sessions for health and human service professionals and the public. Topics will include dementia, Parkinson's disease, international innovations in care for older adults and social isolation during Covid.
Dr. Barak Gaster, professor of medicine at the University of Washington will be the keynote speaker on March 31. Dr. Gaster will discuss advance care planning for dementia, which is one of the most challenging conditions for patients and families and clinicians to navigate as the disease progresses. This session will explore all of the options currently available to align the care that patients with dementia get with the care they would have wanted.
On April 1, the keynote speaker will be Dr. Peter Banitt, a general and interventional cardiologist with The Oregon Clinic in Tualatin. Dr. Banitt will focus on cardiac medications in older adults, including reviewing triggers to reduce or modify them and to develop a framework on how to de-prescribe the medications.
Two-day registration is $195, and $95 for adults age 65 and older or retired. Student registration is $75. Professional continuing education credits are available.
The conference is being presented by the OSU Extension Family and Community Health Program, the College of Public Health and Human Sciences Gerontology Program, the School of Social and Behavioral Health Sciences, and Center for Healthy Aging Research.
