Ottawa, Quebec Unite to Boost Fishing Industry Innovation

Newport, Quebec - The Government of Canada and the Government of Quebec are announcing $5,8 million in funding for 35 projects in Quebec that will help improve the efficiency, quality and sustainability of the province's fish and seafood sector. The Government of Canada's contribution to these 35 projects is $4 million, while the Government of Quebec is contributing $1.8 million.

The Quebec Fisheries Fund (QFF) supports projects in the areas of innovation, science partnerships, commercial fisheries, aquaculture and processing. These projects increase the value of high quality fish and seafood products from sustainable sources, and help position Quebec's fish and seafood sector for continued long term growth.

In the long run, the combined contributions of the Government of Canada and of the Government of Quebec in the QFF should total $42.8 million over five years, which will create opportunities and increase the market value of high quality fish and seafood products from sustainable practices in Quebec.
