Outstanding Kingston women to be recognised this International Women's Day

Kingston will celebrate leading women in our community on International Women's Day – and the community is invited to come along.

The winner of the 3rd annual Kingston Woman of the Year Award will be announced at the event, which showcases the achievements of local women in all spheres of community life.

Kingston Mayor Steve Staikos said the annual event provides the community with a chance to celebrate the remarkable contribution of women across all walks of our society.

"This year there are 24 exceptional nominees for the Kingston Woman of the Year Award, who each contribute wonderful things to our community, through their professional, volunteer or personal achievements," said Cr Staikos.

Hosted by 2020 Kingston Woman of the Year Award and Youth Awards finalist Tara Graves, the event will feature performances from Indigenous Outreach Projects and Melbourne Djembe Group; and an address from Keynote Speaker Mariam Issa, co-founder of RAW (Resilient Aspiring Women) and Space 2b.

"This year's theme is 'a challenged world is an alert world'," said Mayor Staikos. "We can choose to challenge and call out gender bias and inequality. We can choose to seek out and celebrate women's achievements. Collectively, we can all help create an inclusive world."

Interested community members are invited to join us for this free community event however, due to COVID-19 restrictions, numbers will be strictly limited, and registrations will close once the limit is reached.

Kingston's International Women's Day celebration will be held from 9:45am-12.30pm on Friday 5 March at Kingston City Hall in Moorabbin.
