A man has been charged after police seized more than five kilograms of cannabis during a road stop in the state's Riverina.
About 3:20pm yesterday (Sunday, 24 May 2026), officers attached to Riverina Highway Patrol stopped a 4WD travelling on the Hume Highway at Tumblong, about 15km south-east of Gundagai, for the purpose of random testing.
The driver – a 38-year-old man – allegedly returned a positive drug test. A secondary test allegedly produced a positive reading for cannabis. The sample has been sent off for secondary testing.
Officers searched the vehicle and allegedly located 5.08kilograms of cannabis in the rear footwell – with an estimated street value of $27,500.
A knife was also allegedly seized and an additional small amount of cannabis.
The driver and 39-year-old male passenger were arrested and taken to Wagga Wagga Police Station.
The driver was charged with possess cannabis more than indictable & less than commercial quantity and possess prohibited drug.
He was granted strict conditional bail to appear in Wagga Wagga Local Court on Wednesday 5 August 2026. He was also issued with a 24-hour prohibition order to drive.
The passenger was released without charge, pending further investigation.
