Pack Gifts, Not Biosecurity Risks

Tasmanian Government

As the holiday season approaches, Tasmanians and visitors are reminded to ensure that the extra gifts they pack aren't hiding any unwanted pests.

Minister for Primary Industries and Water, Gavin Peace, explained that even Santa will be making his way through the new Biosecurity x-ray machines at our airports this holiday season.

"It's the best time of year for many of us," Minister Pearce said.

"But unfortunately, Christmas spirit alone won't keep the bad stuff out.

"This holiday season, I urge all Tasmanians and Australians coming and going to play their part in keeping our island state pest, weed and disease free.

"It's important that you know what you can bring into Tasmania, be sure to arrive with clean clothes, footwear, and equipment, ask before entering someone's property, and report anything unusual. Every little action makes a big difference."
