Package containing meth intercepted by task force, South Australia

Two people were arrested after a package containing nearly half a kilogram of methamphetamine was intercepted en route from Adelaide to Perth.

On 13 October, officers attached to the South Australia Joint Agency Ice Strike Task Force (JAIST) intercepted a package sent from Adelaide to a Perth address. The parcel contained approximately 480 grams of crystal methamphetamine.

Detectives from the Western Australia Organised Crime Division were contacted and subsequently arrested a 63-year-old woman. She was charged with attempted possession of a prohibited drug and possession of a prohibited weapon (a taser). Police bail was refused.

As a result of further investigations, on 28 October 2019, members of the JAIST and SAPOL Serious and Organised Crime Branch arrested a 33-year-old Woodville man. He was charged with trafficking a controlled drug. It will be alleged that the man was involved in the sending of the methamphetamine to Western Australia. Police bail was refused and he will appear in the Port Adelaide Magistrates Court today, 29 October.

Detective Chief Inspector Tony Crameri, SAPOL Serious and Organised Crime Branch, said, "This operation highlights the information sharing and joint investigation abilities of the participating law enforcement agencies to deal with the use of ice within Australian communities. This is a reminder to the community that people who seek to traffic illicit drugs can face penalties of up to $500,000 and/or life imprisonment."
