Pair extradited from Queensland over historical sexual abuse of girl

A man and a woman will re-appear in court today after being extradited from Queensland over the alleged historical sexual abuse of a girl in the Hunter region.

In November 2016, detectives from the Child Abuse and Sex Crimes Squad commenced an investigation after reports a 10-year-old girl had been sexually abused by a man and woman who were known to her.

Following extensive inquires, a 59-year-old man and a 36-year-old woman, were arrested by Queensland Police at a home in North Lakes on Thursday 3 October 2019.

Child Abuse and Sex Crimes Squad detectives travelled to Queensland on Thursday (3 October 2019), where they applied for and were granted the pair's extradition to NSW at Pine Rivers Magistrates Court the same day.

The pair were escorted by detectives on a flight to Sydney on Friday (4 October 2019) and taken to Raymond Terrace Police Station.

The woman was charged with three counts of sexual intercourse person under 10 (in company).

The man was charged with have sexual intercourse with person (between 10-14), and three counts of sexual intercourse person under 10 (in company).

The pair appeared at Raymond Terrace Local Court on Friday (4 October 2019), where they were refused bail to re-appear at Toronto Local Court today (Tuesday 8 October 2019).

Police will allege in court that the pair sexually abused the girl – then aged between nine and 10 – on several occasions in November 2014, while the man sexually abused the girl again in January 2016.

The Child Abuse and Sex Crimes Squad is comprised of detectives who are specially trained to investigate matters against children and adults, including sexual assault, serious physical abuse, and extreme cases of neglect.
