Pakenham Outdoor Pool Update

Essential maintenance and upgrade works at Pakenham Outdoor Pool are progressing.

The works were originally scheduled for completion by the start of the summer season, however persistent wet weather has caused delays.

Minor maintenance works started in April this year, and the upgrade works commenced in July, after the pool was drained.

The upgrade works involve essential structural repairs, resealing, and repainting of the pool shell, along with several other improvements designed to enhance the experience for all visitors.

The work requires significant time and care because of the highly technical nature of the work. This involves significant works to the centre channel, which forms part of pool's structure and drainage system, as well as repairing more than 100 metres of cracks to the pool shell with injection applied polyurethane and carbon fibre stitches. Sealing and painting of the pool shell is also required.

The materials used for repairing and sealing the pool require dry conditions and optimal temperatures that allows the pool shell to reach a minimum surface temperature of 10 degrees Celsius to ensure proper application, adhesion and curing.

Cardinia Shire Council is committed to taking the time required to ensure everything meets the highest standards for safety, quality and comfort. The upgrades are not expected to be completed for the 2025–26 summer season.

Council recognises that the Pakenham Outdoor Pool is a much-loved community asset, and these upgrades will deliver an improved and more enjoyable pool experience for the community.

Council appreciates the community's patience and understanding while works are undertaken.

Community members are encouraged to visit Council's other pools during the closure, including Cardinia Life at Pakenham, the outdoor pools at Garfield and Koo Wee Rup and the wading pool at Emerald Lake Park.
