Works on Stage 1 of the Pakenham Revitalisation project continue to progress, with major construction almost complete along Drake Place.
From Monday 9 February, Drake Place is expected to be fully reopened, including the road and the new accessible footpath and ramp near Silly Sollys; restoring full access to pedestrians and traffic. Minor works are expected to continue along Drake Place over the coming months to finish off the streetscape works, including final landscaping, street furniture and lighting works.
Council is scheduled to complete nightworks at the Main Street, Station Street and Drake Place intersection from 7pm – 5am on Sunday 8 and Monday 9 February 2026 to remove the existing roundabout.
Removing the roundabout is an important step in improving safety, traffic flow, and access around the town centre. Completing these works now will enable parts of the construction program to be brought forward, helping minimise disruption and keep traffic moving more smoothly during upcoming phases.
To limit disruption to local businesses and road users, these works have been scheduled at night so they can be completed as quickly and efficiently as possible.
What to expect during the works:
- During the nightworks, the roundabout will be temporarily closed.
- Detour routes will be clearly signed to help guide motorists around the work zone.
- Temporary traffic management measures will be in place to ensure safety.
- Access to businesses will be maintained
- Delays and increased traffic expected
Council will be working to minimise disruptions, however, please understand that increased noise, dust and lighting may be temporarily experienced in the area.
Once the roundabout is removed, a temporary roundabout and line marking will be installed to keep traffic moving safely while further works continue.
Upcoming works on Phase 3 (on Main Street near the Railway Hotel) are expected to start from mid-February 2026, conditions permitting.
