Papua New Guinea Independence Day 16 September

Department of State

On behalf of the people and Government of the United States of America, I offer my best wishes as you celebrate your 50 years of Independence on September 16.

The United States and Papua New Guinea continue to enjoy a meaningful relationship as we celebrate your 50th anniversary of independence and 50 years of bilateral ties. The United States and Papua New Guinea reaffirmed our commitments to our bilateral relationship during Prime Minister Marape's recent visit to Washington, DC, during which he met with Vice President Vance and Deputy Secretary Landau. In the coming year, we look forward to advancing our mutual priorities including maritime security cooperation, regional defense cooperation, and economic prosperity.

I look forward to continuing to strengthen our partnership. Please accept my warmest congratulations on another year of independence as you commemorate this important day.
