The City of Greater Bendigo is reminding parents and carers that immunisation sessions continue to be delivered during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Immunisation sessions are currently only taking place at Strathdale Community Centre, as it is a venue large enough to support good social distancing, has accessible car parking and by having only one designated venue the City is able to more easily follow the necessary hygiene practices required.
The next public immunisation session is on Thursday April 16, 9.30am - 11.30am.
Session times will be posted each Friday on the City's website for the following week, visit www.bendigo.vic.gov.au/immunisation
To help limit the number of people in the centre at any one time, only one parent/carer is asked to bring their child to be immunised and to bring their own pen.
Manager Community Wellbeing Andie West said immunisation sessions were classed as an essential service and every effort was made to ensure the safety of children, parents and staff.
"We want to ensure that no child falls behind in receiving their immunisations during this time. This service is an example of one of the four reasons people can leave home, which is for medical appointments or healthcare needs," Ms West said.
"We also want to provide comfort that all precautions are being followed, including our immunisation nurses currently screening people as they come into a session by asking clients if they have been in contact with a person who has tested positive to COVID-19, if they or someone they have been in contact with has recently returned from overseas and if they have recently been unwell.
"Immunisation is a free service provided by the City and it is a simple and effective way to help protect people from sickness and disease.
"While we haven't seen a significant drop in attendances, we do want to remind our community that the immunisation service continues and it is important that immunisations are maintained and delivered at the appropriate times so they remain effective."
