Parliament Welcomes Graduates Into WA's Democracy

Stepping into the heart of government and gaining a clearer view of where their work fits in, Launch participants learnt a lot during their Parliament House visit last week.

The public sector's newest graduate officers visited Parliament House last week to see democracy in action and reflect on their role in it.

The visit is part of Launch , an innovative 10 month development program for graduates new to the public sector that builds the mindsets and behaviours needed to succeed in a rapidly evolving environment.

It gave the 141 program participants a valuable opportunity to see where the state's big decisions are debated, shaped and made.

For Stephanie Chaves from the Department of Energy and Economic Diversification, the experience was both personal and powerful.

"Being in the building gave being a public servant a whole new meaning, seeing firsthand the heart of democratic decision making for the state," she shared.

"I really felt the sense of purpose and history stepping inside, especially after getting to watch the Budget Estimates 2 weeks ago."

For Damien Chinnery from the Public Sector Commission, it was a chance to reflect on the purpose behind the profession.

"It is a great reminder of the importance of our role in carrying out government priorities that support the community.

"The visit is a valuable aspect of the program as it provides graduates clear purpose as a public sector professional and optimism for the role we can play in the future."

The Launch program is just one example of how the WA public sector is a place of opportunity.
