History buffs, locals and visitors are invited to learn about and celebrate Parramatta's rich history through a series of guided walking tours, mini documentaries, and online content as part of the 2021 Parramatta Foundation Festival.
From 6-7 November, guided tours led by knowledgeable experts and historians will be run across 10 locations, including some of Parramatta's most iconic heritage sites such as the Parramatta Female Factory, The Lancer Barracks and Mays Hill Cemetery.
"Parramatta Foundation Festival is a great opportunity for both locals and visitors to experience a different side to Parramatta," City of Parramatta Lord Mayor Cr Steven Issa said.
"Our fascinating walking tours and mini-documentaries provide a deep insight into Parramatta's past, from its traditional custodians to the people, culture and buildings that have shaped its development up to the present."
Presented by the City of Parramatta, the Parramatta Heritage and Visitor Information Centre, and Parramatta Heritage Partners, the walking tours also include Warami Mittigar, an Aboriginal cultural walk with a Darug Elder; Scientific Heritage Walk; Crime, Justice and Punishment Tour; and a tour of Brislington Medical and Nursing Museum.
Two new videos on Parramatta's rich history will be available to view online from 6 November. Following on from the 2020 series of Parramatta Foundations mini-documentaries, presented by Parramatta-born comedian Dan Ilic, the videos explore the history of music in Parramatta and three local institutions celebrating 200 years: The Lancers, Brislington and the Female Factory.
