Parraweena Avenue Reserve welcomed hundreds of local children at its official re-opening on Wednesday, 3 December, following a two-year transformation.
Council closed parts of the Baulkham Hills Reserve, including the children's playground, in December 2022 after discovering bonded asbestos through the soil profile and worked with specialised hygienists and contractors to remediate the site.
Remediation works gave Council the opportunity to install a new full-sized multi-use court for basketball and soccer, improve the kick-about space and build a modern playground for local children to enjoy.
Mayor of The Hills Shire, Dr Michelle Byrne, said she was pleased to see residents using the much-loved park again.
"The health and safety of our residents has always been our highest priority. I'd like to thank our residents for their patience throughout the Reserve's remediation project," Mayor Byrne said.
"We've worked hard to improve Parraweena Avenue Reserve to include more exciting and modern features for everyone to enjoy.
"We've received fantastic feedback from parents and children about the improvements to this facility, and I'm confident the community will love this vibrant new play space."
Key upgrades include:
- New playground with bench seating, shelter and picnic tables
- Off-leash dog park during designated hours
- Multi-purpose sports court (basketball / mini soccer) with platform seating benches and shelter structure
- New turf surface and garden beds with mature trees, shrubs and groundcovers
- New concrete circuit pathway around the Reserve.
