Pedestrian critically injured after being struck by van in Hurstville

An investigation is underway after a man was struck by a vehicle at Hurstville, leaving him with critical injuries, NSW Police say.

The 79-year-old was struck by a reversing van while crossing Barratt Street just before 8am today (Friday 13 April 2018).

Emergency services were alerted and the man was taken to St George Hospital with head injuries.

He remains in hospital in a critical condition.

The driver of the van, a 41-year-old man, was breath tested at the scene and returned a negative result.

Officers from St George Police Area Command are investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident and appealing for any witnesses to come forward.

Police are urging anyone with information in relation to this incident to call Crime Stoppers.
