Pedestrian hit, NSW

A man is in a serious condition in hospital after being struck by a car in Double Bay overnight.

About 10pm (Thursday 17 January 2019) emergency services were called to New South Head Road, near Bellevue Road, Double Bay, following reports a pedestrian had been struck by a utility.

Police have been told the pedestrian, a 41-year-old man, began to run in a northerly direction when he was struck by a Toyota Hilux.

The 41-year-old Alfords Point man, sustained broken ribs, a ruptured spleen, severe bruising to his hip and thigh. He was treated at the scene by NSW Ambulance paramedics before being taken to St Vincent's Hospital.

The male driver, a 30-year-old Double Bay man, was not injured.

Officers from Eastern Suburbs Police Area Command are investigating the circumstances surrounding the crash.
