Pelican Boardwalk Update

MidCoast Council

The Pelican Boardwalk extension in Forster is now open for the community to enjoy over the holiday period, with final works scheduled for completion early in the new year.

A temporary barrier has been installed along the new 120‑metre section of suspended boardwalk, allowing locals and visitors to access the area safely.

A permanent handrail will be fitted in early 2026, along with interpretive signage highlighting the cultural significance of the site, the ecological values of the waterways, and the history of the area. These additions will complete the project, which includes the continuation of the Memorial Drive boardwalk, a new kayak launching system, and access stairs to the lake.

"We are disappointed the boardwalk wasn't completed before the start of the busy Christmas holiday period," said Liam Bulley, Executive Manager Public Spaces.

"While delays in material supply have affected the final stages of construction, temporary measures are in place to ensure the boardwalk is available for everyone to enjoy during the holidays."

The over‑water boardwalk has been designed to be accessible to people of all ages and abilities, offering a unique vantage point for water activities and major events throughout the year.

The new kayak launching system improves access to the Breckenridge Channel for swimmers, kayakers, and paddle boarders, enhancing safety and usability for all.
