- New renders released of the precinct show the rejuvenated PCC area will better connect our cultural institutions
- Cook Government committed to diversifying the economy by fostering vibrant and creative communities
The Perth Cultural Centre (PCC) rejuvenation project has just reached a key project milestone with the appointment of the artist team that will deliver the public art piece.
Respected Noongar artist and cultural advisor Justin Martin, alongside award-winning artists Susan Milne and Greg Stonehouse, will draw on traditional techniques and stories to celebrate and honour the Noongar connection to the area.
Newly completed areas in front of The Blue Room Theatre and near the Perth Institute of Contemporary Arts have recently reopened to the public.
Newly released renders show how when the project is complete the rejuvenated PCC area will feature landscaped, accessible pathways lined with greenery and shaded areas, connecting the major cultural institutions.
Vibrant new spaces will enhance visitor experiences and transform the art gallery's rear into a vibrant, nature-filled hub for art, festivals, and community events that will improve liveability and boost cultural and tourism outcomes for the city.
As stated by Creative Industries Minister Simone McGurk:
"It's great to see the Perth Cultural Centre taking shape. This revitalisation will make better use of the space by joining our cultural institutions, including the WA Museum, the State Library, and The Art Gallery of WA.
"This project is part of the Cook Government's transformation of creative industries in our State, including the new Perth Film Studios, new WA Academy of Performing Arts, and upgrades to the Perth Concert Hall.
"We want to foster a creative economy where our creatives can live and work in Western Australia. We also want to encourage audiences and utilisation of our cultural institutions."
Comments attributed Perth MLA John Carey:
"The public art will be a fantastic addition to the space and will bring together all aspects of the revitalisation including the extensive landscaping, enhanced shaded areas and improved lighting.
"This redevelopment is one of many transformative projects our government is delivering to activate the city, supporting culture and the arts as well as local businesses."
