The Cook Government is celebrating the launch of the 2026 Perth Design Week (PDW) events program with the opening of 'Chirriger Moort: A 30 Year Retrospective of the Work of Peter Farmer' at WA Museum Boola Bardip.
Supported through a $100,000 grant from the Cook Government, Perth Design Week strengthens WA's connection to global design networks while spotlighting local talent and becoming a key platform for design excellence and innovation across architecture, interiors, landscape design, fashion, graphic design, and product design.
The exhibition, presented in partnership with Peter Farmer Designs, celebrates the three-decade career of acclaimed Noongar visual artist and designer Peter Farmer, and showcases the depth of First Nations design and its influence across WA's creative landscape.
Perth Design Week delivered more than 90 events in 2025, drawing an estimated 50,000 attendees and more than 5,000 ticket registrations - demonstrating strong public participation for design-led experiences and industry engagement.
In 2026, Perth Design Week will present a curated program of 10 major events from 19-26 March, as organisers transition to a more sustainable operating model ahead of a planned program expansion in 2027.
Perth Design Week continues to be supported through strong partnerships, volunteer contributions, and in-kind assistance from the WA Museum, Curtin University, State Buildings, Central Park Perth, Block Branding, and design sector collaborators.
As stated by Creative Industries Minister Simone McGurk:
"Tonight's opening of 'Chirriger Moort' is a powerful celebration of Noongar creativity and cultural leadership, and a fitting moment to launch the 2026 Perth Design Week program.
"Peter Farmer's work has inspired Western Australians for decades, and this retrospective highlights the depth and influence of First Nations design across our State.
"Perth Design Week has quickly become a powerhouse for ideas, innovation, and jobs. It strengthens WA's creative industries, supports local designers, and connects Perth with global centres of design thinking.
"The Cook Government is proud to support this important event as it grows in scale and ambition. Investing in design is an investment in our future - in sustainable places, skilled careers, and a thriving cultural economy for Western Australia."
