A new aged care facility servicing the Perth Hills is a step closer to reality, with The Boston Group/Rosewood named as the successful proponent to develop the facility.
Heidelberg Park on Canning Road in Carmel has been earmarked for the aged care accommodation after a registration of interest process was recently completed.
The State Government is providing around 10 hectares of land for the proposed development which will include both a residential aged care facility and public open space and parkland.
Rosewood has been a residential aged care provider in the Western Australian community for almost 70 years.
It has two facilities in the metropolitan area in Leederville and West Perth, which provide high-quality, secure accommodation with specialised staff and amenities.
The Department of Planning, Lands and Heritage will now directly engage with the successful proponent to progress contract negotiations.
As stated by Lands Minister John Carey:
"The McGowan Government is committed to driving improved economic and social outcomes for the Western Australian community. Providing land for development is one of the best ways we can do that.
"We have an ageing population in Western Australia, so increasing the availability of high-quality aged care accommodation is absolutely critical.
"It was an election promise to deliver additional residential options for our seniors and I am glad we are continuing to fulfil that commitment.
"This development also provides security for local residents in the Perth Hills who want to stay within their community."
As stated by Seniors and Ageing Minister Don Punch:
"I welcome this new, much needed accommodation that will not only enable people to stay in their local community but also provide them with more choices for their future residential options.
"I also want to acknowledge the efforts of the Member for Kalamunda Matthew Hughes, who has always been a tireless advocate for the elderly in his electorate and really threw his support behind this new development."
As stated by Kalamunda MLA Matthew Hughes:
"I think this is a red letter day for Perth Hills families with significant implications for the future.
"Before I was elected in 2017, I pledged to do everything I could to increase the availability of aged care to people in the electorate of Kalamunda. I have supported the dedicated community advocates and over the years, we have found solutions together. This is a great outcome."
