A 29-year-old Currambine man is scheduled to appear in the Perth Magistrates Court today (28 June 2019) charged with child exploitation offences.

The Australian Federal Police (AFP) received information from Canada's National Child Exploitation Coordination Centre (NCECC), which alerted police to alleged child exploitation offences.

On 7 June 2019, AFP members of the Perth Joint Agency Child Exploitation Team (JACET) executed a search warrant at the man's residence.

The man's electronic devices were examined and seized in instances deemed relevant to the investigation. It will be alleged these devices were used to access and transmit child exploitation material.

The man was arrested and charged with offences:

  • One count of possession of child exploitation material contrary to section 220 of the Criminal Code Act 1913 (WA). The maximum penalty for this offence is seven years imprisonment.
  • Three counts of using a carriage service for child pornography material contrary to section 474.19 of the Criminal Code Act 1995 (Cth). The maximum penalty for this offence is 15 years imprisonment.

Those engaged in or contemplating child exploitation activity should be aware that police are continuously working to identify and prosecute you.
