Bayside Sexual Offences and Child Abuse Investigation Team (SOCIT) detectives have released a digital composite image of a man as part of an investigation into a sexual assault at a Brighton pier last month.

Investigators have been told a 14-year-old girl was swimming with friends at the Middle Brighton Pier, on Wednesday 13 January, when she was sexually assaulted by an unknown man about 4.40pm.

The girl was swimming back to a ladder along the pier when the man grabbed her while in the water and sexually assaulted her.

The man was last seen swimming away from the area.

Detectives have released a digital composite image of a man they believe could assist with their enquiries.

He is perceived to be in his 20, with short dark hair, had blue/green eyes and a solid build.

Anyone who recognises the man, or has information that could assist police with their enquiries is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or submit a confidential crime report at www.crimestoppersvic.com.au
