What a difference 48 hours makes! Over 2 days in early September, Brandon Park Reserve in Glen Waverley transformed, as a fleet of trucks and a giant crane meticulously coordinated the delivery of 11 large pavilion sections.
It's a significant milestone in the $4.6 million project, which is supported by the Victorian Government, and will deliver a brand-new facility for the thriving sport clubs that call the reserve home.
Members of Mazenod Football Club and Mulgrave Wheelers Hill Cricket Club joined Mayor of Monash, Cr Paul Klisaris, on Wednesday 10 September to mark the successful installation.
More space to play, more space to grow
With a combined 33 teams and more than 400 athletes including many young juniors, Mazenod Football Club and Mulgrave Wheelers Hill Cricket Club have vastly outgrown the current Brandon Park Reserve pavilion, which only has 2 changerooms - one of which doubles as a social space.
The new pavilion's 4 modern, female-friendly change rooms will offer teams space and privacy before and after matches, while also helping with the rotation of teams when matches are played back-to-back. Providing these upgrades helps to make local sport more inclusive and accessible, particularly for girls and women, while making the space more flexible to clubs' needs.
A separate social room and fully equipped kitchen will allow volunteers and club staff to manage logistics unencumbered and visitors, a more welcoming space. An umpires and first aid room and external storage round out the new facility's layout.
Building blocks of success
As part of the modular construction process, the pavilion's separate units were built off site, before being transported and craned into position at the reserve, significantly cutting down the disruption to the local community.
Next steps include connecting services, finishing the interiors, and creating a tiered spectator viewing area in front of the pavilion.
The project is scheduled to move onto stage 2 in early 2026, which includes demolishing the existing pavilion and constructing a new car park.
