  • Roebourne State Emergency Service strengthened with new rescue truck
  • Cook Labor Government committed to building safe communities

The Cook Labor Government has delivered four key assets to help fire and emergency services volunteers keep Pilbara communities safe.

A $1 million 10-metre inflatable boat has been launched by Marine Rescue Port Walcott. The vessel has a strong design emphasis on crew comfort and safety when responding to emergencies.

The Pilbara Seeker IV, a rigid hull vessel, is equipped with advanced navigation, communication and search systems to support offshore and long-range operations.

The new boat will also assist Marine Rescue Port Walcott in its youth program, which includes eight members developing skills in marine safety, first aid, and vessel handling.

Wickham Volunteer Fire and Rescue Service has been allocated a $310,000 light tanker to enhance its response capability to incidents such as structural fires, bushfires, and road crashes.

The 20-member brigade has responded to 50 incidents in the past two years.

Nearby Roebourne State Emergency Service (SES) was handed a new general rescue truck worth $420,000 to lift the unit's response capability in the region.

The appliance features upgraded lighting, crew support, and on-board equipment battery charging.

Karratha State Emergency Service received a $152,000 general rescue utility to strengthen the range of appliances available to protect the community.

The Unit is also a key contributor to broader SES capability across the Pilbara, regularly supporting neighbouring units and the local Department of Fire and Emergency Services office through training and operational assistance.

As stated by Emergency Services Minister David Michael:

"Our dedicated emergency services volunteers in the Pilbara face unique challenges protecting families, landscapes, and businesses across the region.

"It is vitally important the volunteers have the resources they need to do what they do so well on land and water while also keeping them safe in their response.

As stated by Pilbara MLA Kevin Michel:

"This funding is testament to the commitment of the Cook Labor Government to properly fund emergency services in the Pilbara region.

"I want to acknowledge the outstanding contribution to the community from the four volunteer teams at Port Walcott, Karratha, Roebourne, and Wickham, and I am confident the vessel and vehicles will quickly become key assets in the Pilbara."
