Pine Gully Road Roundabout Construction Begins January

Construction of a new roundabout on Pine Gully Road at the intersection with Cootamundra Boulevard is scheduled to commence on Tuesday 27 January 2026, weather permitting.

The works will involve a full road closure at the Pine Gully Road and Cootamundra Boulevard intersection for the duration of the construction phase, which is expected to be complete in April 2026.

Wagga Wagga City Council's Director Infrastructure Services Henry Pavitt acknowledges the closure will impact residents and road users, who are advised to expect delays entering or exiting the area.

"We understand the inconvenience the closure will cause for the community, as the intersection is one of the key access points to Estella Rise and Gobbagombalin," Mr Pavitt said.

"The decision to close the intersection takes into account the safety of the workers on site and road users, and the overall speed of construction.

"In an effort to help manage traffic flow in the area once works start on the new roundabout, we've installed a temporary access road to link Coppabella Drive to Pine Gully Road.

"Detours will be along Estella Road and Boorooma Street and the temporary access road in the north of Gobbagombalin and Estella Rise, and via Muttama Parade in the south, or Harris Road in the west."

Electronic message boards and detour signage will be in place to direct traffic.

The project includes construction of a new roundabout, traffic islands, kerb and guttering, and drainage improvements. Early works, including the relocation of essential services, commenced on 5 January 2026 and are ongoing.

"Once the closure comes into effect, we expect there will be an increase in the volume of traffic using the Muttama Parade intersection, and in the streets surrounding the temporary access road at Coppabella Drive," Mr Pavitt said.

"We know it will be disruptive, but we ask for your cooperation and understanding and encourage people to allow extra travel time for their journeys during the construction phase."

Once completed, the roundabout will provide vital east-west access between Gobbagombalin and Estella Rise, and Boorooma and Estella during the subsequent intersection upgrades along Pine Gully Road, at Estella Road in the north and Muttama Parade in the south.

The intersection treatment is Stage 2 of the Pine Gully Road Corridor upgrade project, which is designed to improve road safety for motorists, pedestrians, and residents of the area, across a project site that stretches from the Old Narrandera Road intersection in the south to Estella Road in the north.

The Pine Gully Road upgrade project is funded by Wagga Wagga City Council.
