Planning consent has been granted for the Orange Regional Sporting Precinct, paving the way for Council to consider awarding a construction contract at its October meeting.
The Western Region Planning Panel (WRPP) gave the project the green light at its meeting this week. The approval covers key elements of the project, including:

GREEN LIGHT: Orange Mayor Tony Mileto and Deputy Mayor Tammy Greenhalgh announce the development consent at the site.
• The John Davis Stadium and 1350-seat grandstand
• stadium lighting
• car parking
• lighting for eight fields
• amenities to support the fields
• and landscaping.
The Orange Regional Sporting Precinct project is funded by a $15 million investment from the Australian Government's Growing Regions Program and $59.5 million from the NSW Government.
Orange Mayor Tony Mileto said with consent in place the tender would go to a Council meeting next month.
"There has been an enormous amount of work done to get to this point but over the next 12 months we will see our vision for the site come to life," he said.
"To deliver projects of this scale it takes a lot of things to go right. At the heart of that is three tiers of government working together and I thank the NSW and Federal governments for supporting the project and the region."
NSW Minister for Regional NSW Tara Moriarty said:
"The Minns Government is focused on working with Orange City Council and seeing progress on the Orange Regional Sporting Precinct and the gaining of consent from the WRPP for the project to proceed is a critical point.
"I now look forward to seeing the project coming to life after the tender for construction is progressed by Council and construction has begun on the stadium and the landscaping around the precinct."
Orange Deputy Mayor and Council's Recreation and Culture Policy Committee Chair Cr Tammy Greenhalgh said the goal was delivering the best sports precinct in regional NSW.
"Council still has a few conditions we need to comply with before construction can begin however it will be great to see the next stage of the construction. I keep thinking ahead to when our young athletes from across the region will be using the precinct. It will be worth the wait," she said.
The tender is likely to be awarded on 7 October 2025 and construction is set to commence before the end of this year.
