Vacant government-owned land in Haberfield and Ashfield will soon make way for hundreds of new homes, as the Minns Labor Government unveils plans for a major new housing development in Sydney's Inner West.
Under the proposal, around 340 new homes would be delivered across four new residential buildings on land around Parramatta Road, Alt Street and Bland Street, with 30 per cent dedicated to social housing for those who need it most.
Identified through the government's statewide land audit as surplus land suitable for housing, it's the latest site to be progressed through the NSW Government's historic $6.6 billion Building Homes for NSW program.
The vacant sites were previously used for the WestConnex project office and related works but are in prime location for new housing, opposite a major supermarket and within walking distance of two schools, shops and essential services, with regular bus connections along Parramatta Road.
The proposal includes buildings ranging from three to seven storeys, with landscaped communal areas, parking, bicycle parking, and some community and other non-residential uses fronting Parramatta Road.
Homes NSW is now asking the community to provide early feedback before a State Significant Development Application is lodged with the Department of Planning, Housing and Infrastructure.
