Plans revealed for more fields at West Pennant Hills reserve

George Thornton Reserve

A draft landscape master plan proposing to expand the playing opportunities at George Thornton Reserve in West Pennant Hills is now on public exhibition.
The plan proposes to realign the existing Reserve to create three full-sized sports fields to better cater to the West Pennant Hills community and their needs as identified in Council's Recreation Strategy.
In addition to this, the masterplan also proposes future improvements to be made at the site if funding does become available, including an expansion of the amenities building to provide additional change rooms, as well as an extension to the existing car park to make more spaces.
The draft landscape master plan also proposes the opportunity to deliver one of the new fields as a synthetic playing surface to provide for an even greater increase in access to local sports fields. The creation of this synthetic field will also be dependent upon public response, as well as funding being available to build such a facility.
Mayor of The Hills Shire, Dr Peter Gangemi said he encouraged residents to "have their say".
"Our community highly values our sporting facilities and that's why we want to hear from them about these new plans," Mayor Gangemi said.
West Pennant Hills has been identified as an area that will continue to benefit from Council's strong track record of investment in sports facilities.
"It's always important that Council plans strategically to ensure our community has the necessary infrastructure in place, such as additional sporting fields, to support both our existing and future Hills residents. Thankfully our Council benefits from strong financial management which allows us to provide these great outcomes for our community," Mayor Gangemi added.
Residents can have their say by making an online submission via Council's website, www.thehills.nsw.gov.au, by 4pm on 17th March 2022. Simply click on the "What's Happening" tab and then click on "Current Plans on Exhibition".
"Once the public consultation is complete, all feedback will be considered and a final version of the plan will be presented to Council for adoption. Following this, Council anticipates a staged implementation of the adopted plan," he added.
