Plant Giveaway and Volunteer Expo returns
Council will be Celebrating Local Government week with a Plant Giveaway & Volunteer Expo at the Civic Centre this weekend.
The event will run from 10am-1pm on August 9 and feature pop-up stalls hosted by local volunteer groups, and Council staff will be on hand to answer any questions local may have about how Council operates.
There are 450 plants to be given away (limit 2 per person) including a range of hardy shrubs and ground covers, and community groups will be on hand to provide food and drinks.
Mayor Tom Kennedy said the event was a chance for Council and local groups to raise awareness about the importance of volunteering and showcase the range of volunteer services available in the city.
"I'm really impressed with the number of volunteer stallholders we have this year, there's going to be a great range of groups to talk to - whether you're looking to volunteer or you just need some assistance," said Mayor Kennedy.
"I'm also really happy to see that the plant giveaway remains popular, especially with the range of smaller plants and groundcovers available which will help keep dust down.
"Hopefully locals can take advantage of this day and green their yards and get involved with the many worthwhile volunteer organisations we have here in Broken Hill."
