Planting Day and Giveaway this Saturday

Darwin City Council

Darwin residents are invited to help create a greener city at a community planting day to be held at East Point this Saturday, 13 May 2023.

Lord Mayor Kon Vatskalis said the planting day would play a role in creating a cool green and clean city for all residents and help regenerate the East Point area.

"Along with planting 3000 plants at East Point, we'll have 500 native plants to give away," Mr Vatskalis said.

Planting holes have been pre-dug to ensure easy planting for volunteers.

"It will be a wonderful morning where everyone gets together, pitches in and socialises with their fellow community members," he said.

Over the past year, City of Darwin has already given away 13,000 native plants and following this planting we will have planted 4000 plants into revegetation sites across Darwin.

Everyone should bring sunscreen, wear a hat and enclosed shoes. Water will be available at no cost at the event.

Each household will be allowed to take home a maximum of six plants and proof of residence in the Darwin municipality is required to receive the plants.

The event will be held 8am -11am at East Point opposite the Equestrian Centre.
