Federation Council in partnership with Corowa Dog Lovers, is excited to announce Bark in the Park, a special dedication event taking place at 10.30am on Saturday, 12th September. The event will be held at the Maryann Herbert Memorial Dog Park in the Bangerang Park Precinct, Corowa to celebrate the park's new upgrades and to host an official renaming ceremony in honour of Maryann Herbert.
The community is invited to enjoy a fantastic family friendly day out. The Park will come alive with demos, raffle draws, pet product stalls, a BBQ lunch catered by the Men's Shed, and a costume dog parade with prizes. During the event, attendees are asked to keep their dogs leashed in the Large Dog Area, while the Small Dog Area will remain off-leash.
The event will also feature an official ribbon-cutting ceremony to celebrate the park's brand-new pergola. This addition is part of a broader series of park upgrades and landscaping improvements designed to enhance the scenery and provide a more beautiful, welcoming environment for both dogs and their owners.
The naming of the park is a deeply meaningful tribute to the late Maryann Herbert, recognising her lifelong dedication to the local community.
Sarah Lavis, President of Corowa Dog Lovers, shared the group's pride in this dedication.
"Like so many people in Corowa, I had the privilege of being taught by Maryann," Ms Lavis said.
"She wasn't just a wonderful teacher - she was kind, encouraging and genuinely invested in the success and wellbeing of every student she taught. Her influence extended far beyond the classroom, and I know I am just one of many whose life she positively impacted. Maryann was passionate about dogs, community and environment and believed they deserved safe spaces to exercise and socialise."
Ms Lavis said naming the park in her honour ensures her contribution will be remembered for generations to come.
"This is a beautiful and fitting tribute to an extraordinary woman," she said.
Federation Council Mayor, Cr Cheryl Cook, said Council was proud to partner with the community to deliver these enhanced facilities.
"Bark in the Park is a wonderful opportunity for our community to come together, celebrate these fantastic upgrades, and enjoy a vibrant day out with our four-legged friends," Mayor Cook said.
"Council is committed to creating accessible, high-quality open spaces, and these new additions will make the park an even more enjoyable destination for local pet owners and visitors alike."
