Police appeal after assault and attempted carjacking near Wollongong

Police are appealing for public assistance following an assault and attempted carjacking near Wollongong this morning.

Shortly after 10.30am today (Wednesday 28 August 2019), a 26-year-old man was riding a motorcycle in a westerly direction along Cordeaux Road, Mount Kembla, when he was approached by a white Toyota Kluger sounding its horn.

The man pulled over and the Kluger allegedly veered, nearly hitting the man, before coming to a stop.

As the passengers started to exit the vehicle, the man, fearing for his safety, sped off on his motorbike.

The Kluger allegedly chased the motorcycle and veered towards the motorcycle driver, hitting him on his left side.

The pursuit continued along Cordeaux Road and the Kluger allegedly hit the motorcycle a second time, knocking the man off his bike.

The front and rear passengers allegedly got out of the vehicle and assaulted the man, before getting back in the vehicle and driving away in an easterly direction.

The motorcycle rider sustained minor injuries and did not require medical attention.

The Kluger was sighted just before 3pm today (Wednesday 28 August 2019) travelling through Coniston.
