Police appeal after firearm produced during driving incident in Liverpool

Police are appealing for public assistance after a firearm was produced after a crash on a major motorway at Liverpool, NSW Police say.

About 7.30pm on Sunday 9 December 2018, a Toyota Yaris driven by a 35-year-old woman, carrying a 33-year-old man and two-year-old boy, was travelling west towards Campbelltown on the M5 Motorway at Liverpool, when a Subaru Forester hit the back of the Toyota, causing significant damage.

The woman pulled over to exchange details with the driver of the Subaru; however, when the Subaru continued driving away, the woman followed.

Police have been told when the woman caught up with the Subaru, the driver of the Subaru produced a baseball bat and began swinging it in a threatening manner toward the Toyota, while the passenger of the Subaru produced a firearm and pointed it at the woman.

At this point, the Toyota has left the M5 Motorway at Heathcoate Road and notified police.

The woman and her son received minor whiplash injuries as a result of the crash.

Officers from Liverpool City Police Area Command are looking to speak with three people last seen travelling west toward Campbelltown in a Subaru Forester GT.

One man is described as being of Caucasian appearance, with a medium build and short spiky hair.

There are no descriptions available for two other passengers.

Police are appealing for anyone with dashcam footage of the incident to come forward.

Anyone with information about this incident is urged to contact Crime Stoppers.
