Police appeal for information after acid attack in Sydney

An investigation is underway following a targeted attack in Sydney's CBD last night which has left a woman with burns to her face.

About 11.15pm (Friday 15 April 2022), emergency services were called to a restaurant on Dixon Street, Haymarket, after concerns were raised for an injured woman who had sought refuge inside.

Police have been told the 32-year-old was standing on the street, when a black hatchback stopped in front of her.

Three men wearing facemasks exited the vehicle, when a substance, believed to be acid, was thrown at the woman's face. The men got back in the vehicle and drove off along Dixon Street.

First aid was rendered, before the woman was taken to Royal North Shore Hospital for treatment of facial injuries.

A crime scene was established, and the substance was assessed by NSW Fire and Rescue HAZMAT crews.

Detectives from Sydney City Police Area Command commenced an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident, which is believed to be targeted.
