Police appeal for witnesses after fatal collision in Point Cook

Investigators from Wyndham North Highway Patrol are appealing for witnesses following a fatal collision in Point Cook last night.

It is believed a man travelling with a three-year-old child had stopped in the emergency lane of the Princes Freeway, near Princes Highway, and appears to have been crossing the freeway when he was struck by a white Toyota Hilux ute just after 4.30pm.

The 54-year-old Werribee man died at the scene.

The child was uninjured during the incident.

Investigators wish to speak with the driver of a black Mercedes who it is understood was also stopped in the emergency lane near the victim's car, however left prior to police attendance.

The driver of the Toyota, a 31-year-old Carlton man, was not physically injured and is assisting police with their enquiries.

The exact cause of the collision is yet to be determined at this stage.
