Police appeal for witnesses following collision on Northern Highway

State Highway Patrol police are appealing for witnesses following a collision between Pyalong and Tooborac on Boxing Day, Victoria Police say.

A car and an empty B-double petrol tanker collided on the Northern Highway about 1pm, causing the car to leave the road, fall down an embankment and crash into a tree.

No serious injuries were sustained as a result of the incident.

The driver of the car, a 23-year-old Bundoora man and unaccompanied learner driver, was spoken to by police at the scene and tested positive to methylamphetamine.

Police are investigating and would like to speak to anyone who may have witnessed the collision or a red sedan travelling in the vicinity prior to the collision.

He is expected to be charged on summons with traffic-related offences including driving whilst disqualified, driving in a manner dangerous, driving under the influence, refusing an oral fluid test and driving an unsafe and unregistered vehicle.

Anyone with information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers.
