Police are appealing for public assistance to locate a man missing from Sydney's north-west.

Guangyuan Yang, aged 76, had only been in Australia 24 hours when he went missing from his family's home in Beaumont Hills.

Officers attached to The Hills and Riverstone police area commands were alerted and began inquiries to locate the man.

They have received reports from residents in both commands of a man matching Mr Yang's description knocking on the doors of homes in the area; however, have been unable to locate him.

The last report is of a man matching Mr Yang's appearance knocking on a door in The Ponds about 9.30pm yesterday (Sunday 20 November 2022).

Mr Yang is described as being of Asian appearance, with a slim build, 172cm tall, short grey hair and brown eyes.

He does not speak English.

At the time he was last seen he was wearing red long-sleeved t-shirt, dark blue pants, dark blue joggers, and had a red and yellow 'Diabolo' (a Chinese yo-yo). Later sightings of Mr Yang indicate he may also be wearing a jacket and carrying a Big W tote bag.

Police and family hold concerns for his welfare due to his age and that he's been outside overnight.

Anyone who sees Mr Yang is urged to contact Riverstone or Castle Hill Police Station or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.

Anyone with information about this incident is urged to contact Crime Stoppers: 1800 333 000 or https://nsw.crimestoppers.com.au. Information is treated in strict confidence. The public is reminded not to report information via NSW Police social media pages.
