Emergency services responded to a single vehicle crash in Creightons Creek this afternoon.
It's believed a vehicle travelling along Hume Freeway near Avenel-Longwood Road has crashed into a tree just after 3pm.
The driver of the car has been taken to hospital in a serious condition, the passenger has died at the scene.
Both are yet to be formally identified.
The exact cause of the crash is yet to be determined at this stage.
