Police are responding to fatal crash - Jerry Plains

A person has died following a single-vehicle crash and car fire in the state's Hunter region yesterday.

About 6.40pm (Sunday 16 February 2020), emergency services were called to the Golden Highway near Lemington Drive, Jerry Plains, about 40km west of Singleton, after reports of a car on fire.

Police believe the car was travelling west along the Golden Highway when it left the roadway and crashed into trees, catching on fire.

The fire was extinguished by NSW Rural Fire Service and a body was located inside the car. It is yet to be formally identified.

Officers from Hunter Valley Police District established a crime scene and commenced inquiries into the circumstances surrounding the crash.

A report will be prepared for the information of the Coroner.
