Police Are Responding To Fatal Crash Near Cooma

A driver has died in a two-vehicle crash in the state's south.

About 3pm today (Wednesday 2 September 2026), emergency services were called to the Snowy Mountains Highway, Nimmitabel, about 20km south of Cooma, following reports of a crash.

Officers attached to Monaro Police District attended and found a car and a truck had collided, with the crash causing a large fire.

Fire and Rescue NSW crews are working to extinguish the blaze.

The driver of the car died at the scene. They are yet to be formally identified.

The driver of the truck was treated at the scene for minor injuries and was taken to hospital for mandatory testing.

A crime scene was established and an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash has commenced.

Police will prepare a report for the information of the Coroner.
