Police are responding to fatal crash, Newtown

A Newtown woman has died following a single-vehicle crash in Newtown overnight.

Initial investigations indicate an alleged stolen silver Holden Commodore was driving eastbound on Hursley Road just after midnight when it lost control and crashed into trees near Tor Street.

Local patrols had sighted the vehicle shortly prior to the crash but had not attempted to engage with the driver.

The passenger, an 18-year-old Newtown woman died at the scene.

The driver, a 19-year-old Ipswich man, was transported to Toowoomba Hospital with minor injuries.

The Forensic Crash Unit is investigating the circumstances of the crash and the Ethical Standards Command will review the matter.
