Police arrest man after assaulting police officer at Auburn

A man has been arrested after assaulting a police officer and behaving in an offensive matter in Auburn earlier today.

About 1am (Sunday 4 August 2019), NSW Ambulance paramedics attended a home in Guildford where they treated a female patient.

A 20-year-old male at the scene insisted on riding with the female patient in the ambulance. They were conveyed to Auburn Hospital.

Shortly after, the man became aggressive with hospital staff and he had to be removed by security.

Officers attached to Auburn Police Area Command attended the hospital and observed the man to be intoxicated. He was issued with a move on direction. When he failed to comply, the man become involved in a physical altercation with police, yelling abuse and swearing.

He moved his head back and forth in a headbutting motion, with no contact made however, shortly after, he pushed a Senior Constable before he was restrained by officers.

The Senior Constable sustained a minor graze and swelling to his right knee.

The 20-year-old man was conveyed to Auburn Police Station and was charged with assault police officer in execution of duty, refuse/ fail to comply with direction and behave in offensive manner in/ near public place/ school.

He was refused bail and will appear at Parramatta Local Court on Sunday 4 August 2019.
