Police arrest man following sexual assault

Police have arrested and charged a man following an alleged sexual assault in Caulfield on Sunday (3 March).

Investigators have been told a 15-year-old girl was sitting on the number 64 tram travelling along Hawthorn Road about 2.40pm.

It is alleged a man approached the girl and sat down next to her before sexually assaulting her.

The girl got off the tram at the next stop and reported the matter to police.

Officers arrested a 37-year-old Caulfield man a short time later.

He was interviewed and is expected to be charged on summons with sexual assault and unlawful assault.
