Police arrest man for Breach of a Direction

A 31-year-old man had been arrested, charged and refused bail after Failing to Comply with a Direction under the Emergency Management Act 2005.

The man was returning to WA and arrived at Perth Airport on 29 December 2020 from Victoria. He was directed to Self-Quarantine at a suitable premise on Friday 1 January 2021, as part of the Victorian Outbreak Directions.

It is alleged about 10.25am on Saturday, 9 January 2021 the man attended a hospital in Midland for his 11-day COVID test. It is further alleged whilst inside the clinic the man removed his facemask and became aggressive and abusive towards staff. He was also in company of a family member which breached a Family Violence Restraining Order.

The 31-year-old man from Wembley Downs has been charged with:-

• Failure to Comply with a Direction (Section 86 1A);

• Behaving in a Disorderly Manner in a Public Place and in Sight or Hearing of any Person in a Public Place; and

• Breached a Family Violence Restraining Order.

He is due to appear before the Perth Magistrates Court today, 10 January 2021.
