Police Arrest Pair After Driving Stolen Car Into Dam

Two men have been arrested after stealing a delivery car at Mansfield Park last night.

Just after 6.30pm on Monday 27 April, a man was making a delivery on Hanson Road, Mansfield Park when two people jumped in his unattended Toyota Camry and drove off.

PolAir was airborne and spotted the stolen Camry heading east on Henley Beach Road. The vehicle was tracked through the western suburbs before heading south.

The vehicle continued east on Cross Road before travelling up the South Eastern Freeway and taking the Mount Lofty off ramp to drive along Waverly Ridge Road at Crafers.

Patrols followed the vehicle into a dead end at Hill Street, Crafers West where the Camry drove into a dam. The passenger fled but was found by Dog Operations PD Webester.

The driver initially refused to get out of the water but was eventually arrested, after some encouragement by PD Enzo and police negotiators.

The driver, a 21-year-old man from Semaphore Park, and his passenger, a 19-year-old man from Murray Bridge, were arrested and charged with numerous offences including illegal use of a motor vehicle, speed dangerous and dangerous driving to escape police pursuit.

The pair were refused bail and expected to appear in the Adelaide Magistrates Court later today.

The car will be removed from the dam later this morning.
