Police arrest pair after eastern suburbs crime spree

Box Hill Divisional Response Unit have arrested two teenagers after seven alleged burglaries across the eastern suburbs last night.

Police were called on each occasion following reports a group of youths entered various stores with their faces covered on Thursday 20 July between 5pm and 7pm.

The pair allegedly made their way through the retail outlets grabbing bottles of assorted liquor and slabs of alcohol.

During some of the robberies, it is alleged a hammer was produced to threaten attendants.

The locations targeted include liquor stores in:

• Springvale Road, Mulgrave

• Stevensons Road, Mount Waverley

• Burwood Highway, Vermont South

• Canterbury Road, Forest Hill

• Lawrence Street, Blackburn South

• Middleborough Road, Box Hill South

• Burwood Highway, Burwood.

The group also targeted a milkbar in Middleborough Road in Box Hill South.

This morning, officers arrested two teenagers in relation to the incidents.

The pair, aged 14 and 15, are assisting police with their enquiries.

Detectives are following numerous lines of enquiry and are confident of identifying the remaining youths swiftly.
