Police Arrest: Prohibited Weapon Seized in Darwin

Northern Territory Police have arrested a man following an incident involving an imitation firearm in Darwin's northern suburbs overnight.

Around 10:54pm on last night, police received a report that a 59-year-old man had been threatened with what appeared to be a firearm in Wulagi.

It is alleged the victim approached a 19-year-old male who was causing a disturbance from a vehicle parked outside his property. The 19-year-old male then produced a apparent firearm, pointed it at the victim and threatened to kill him.

Multiple police units responded immediately, with investigations leading to a quick vehicle apprehension and seizure of an AR-15 style gel blaster. The 19-year-old male was arrested at the scene and underwent both breath and drug analysis.

The 19-year-old male remains in police custody and is expected to be charged with related offences including possess prohibited weapon (imitation firearm), drive medium range blood alcohol concentration and make a threat to kill a person.

Duty Superintendent Vicki Koum commended the quick response from Casuarina police officers.

"Their timely actions meant the situation was safely resolved and a 19-year-old male being placed in custody very quickly."
