Police arrest two after incidents in Gippsland

Police have arrested two men following a pursuit through Gippsland this afternoon.

Officers responded to reports of an aggravated burglary in Glengarry about 1.20pm.

It is believed that two male offenders allegedly broke into a Main Street residence brandishing edged weapons.

The pair left the premises in previously stolen vehicle.

Police observed the vehicle lose control and run into a ditch after turning into a dead-end street in Yallourn.

During the dynamic arrest of a 20-year-old Peninsula man, an unmarked police car was allegedly stolen by the second offender.

The stolen police car allegedly collided with another vehicle at the intersection of Princes Highway and Hazeldean Road, Yarragon.

The 63-year-old male driver of the other vehicle sustained minor injuries.

The driver of the stolen police car, a 29-year-old Cranbourne man, was uninjured and arrested at the scene.

Both men remain in custody assisting police with their enquiries.

An investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident is ongoing.

Professional Standards Command has been notified and will have oversight of the investigation as per normal procedure.
